Robert Fulton was born November 14, 1765 in Little Britain, Pennsylvania. Fulton developed the first successful steamboat which changed the way that people and goods were transported. Robert Fulton's experiments began while he was in Paris, and may have been stimulated by his friendship with Chancellor Livingston who had held the monopoly for the navigation of the Hudson River
