The Industrial Revolution began before the United States was an official country and it lasted until the 1870s. It caused a major change in how Americans produced the goods that they imported, exported and consumed. The revolution also changed how people made a life for themselves, where they lived and the type of jobs that they had. The American industrial revolution began with Samuel Slater who opened the first industrial mill in the United States in 1790 with a design that borrowed heavily from a British model.
